Dr Rahul Mehra’s visit 28th April to 2nd May

Dr Rahul Mehra Executive Chairman Tarang Health Alliance, Representative of India- UNESCO Chair for Global Health and Education visits India twice a year for interaction with students and teachers/management of schools running Comprehensive School Health Program for middle school students.. During his India visit in April-May 2024 , he visited Jaipur from 28th April to 02 May 2024. The report below captures day wise various activities that took place while he was at Jaipur.
28th April 2024
Dr Rahul Mehra arrived at Jaipur. He was received by Mr Umardin and escorted to Jhalana Officers Institute, Jaipur, where he stayed during the visit duration.
29th April 2024-M
Meeting with Apurv Kumar, owner Clark Group of Hotels. Participants along with Mr Apurva Kumar were Dr Rahul Mehra, Mr Vikram Rastogi , Capt. Ruma Peter and Dr Gargee. This was a follow up meeting . Earlier Mr Bakshi, Wg Cdr Kala (Retd.) and Dr Gargee Gopesh had met Mr Apurv Kumar where in he had shown interest in meeting Dr Mehra.
Key Highlights
- Mr Apurv Kumar informed the team about philanthropic work that he and his wife are engaged in. He elaborated on their contribution towards skill development and education.
- He congratulated and appreciated Dr Rahul Mehra for CSHP developed by him. He shared his thoughts on ways to enhance the impact of the program. Some of his inputs are :-
- Create video content with cartoons and animated characters.
- Record lectures of Dr Rahul (short and long)
- Bring an internationally renowned nutritionist in the panel of CSHP.
- During the meeting possibility of presenting CSHP to political leadership in state of Rajasthan, so as to implement it in Govt. schools was also discussed. During the discussion Mr Kumar suggested that he would help arrange a meeting with political leadership right at top. He suggested that we create a PPT of not more than 5 minutes covering global statistics and health education indices and rather than ‘Bottom Up’ approach it should be ‘Global to Rajasthan’ approach. He emphasised that this presentation should focus the program as the initiative of the government and us as the advisors to the government.
- Mr Kumar showed keen interest in corporate health program related inputs shared by Dr Mehra. Mr Apurv seemed keenly interested in connecting their in-house doctor to Dr Rahul for further discussion. We at CWC could pursue it further.
30th April
- Geeta Bajaj Bal Mandir school Jaipur- Parent engagement session.
- Dr Rahul Mehra, Rastogi Ji and Capt. Ruma Peter attended the program. School Director Gurudev Singh and his wife, School Principal Jha sir and Administrator Mr Pareek along with school teachers, students of classes 7th and 8th and 20-25 parents were present. Mr Patni Ji was also present as guest in the program.
- We received a warm welcome from the team. School Director Gurudev Singh introduced all the guests and also the historical importance of the school.
- The school students performed a beautiful welcome song.
- Dr Rahul Mehra gave a lecture demonstration touching upon the topics of nutrition, sugar and salt intake, Anaemia and parents as role models.
- Parents and students were very interactive and asked multiple questions to Dr Rahul
- The session ended with a brief meeting with the management of the school and CSHP teachers. Dr Rahul appreciated the efforts and encouraged the teachers to stay passionate and motivated.
- CWC Team meeting and lunch at CWC office
- Dr Rahul Mehra, Rastogi Ji, Capt. Ruma Peter, Dr Gargee, Sharad sir, Umardin Ji and Shah Sahab were present.
- Informal discussion on various topics happened during this time. Sharad sir spoke about the benefits of various Ayurvedic practices and developments happening at present and benefits of yoga and Ayurveda in daily life of people.
- Dinner engagement of Dr Rahul Mehra with Dr Gargee and Mr Gopesh.
- Dr Gargee and her husband Mr Gopesh invited Dr Rahul over dinner.
1st May
- Meeting with Principal AVM Jhotwara-
- Dr Rahul Mehra, Rastogi Ji, Capt. Ruma Peter attended the meeting. Principal Raghuveer Ji, one senior member of the school management, secretary of the school management were present.
- Concerning topics regarding implementation of CSHP, requirement of teacher, collaboration of the school and health analysis of the students were discussed.
- Dr Rahul emphasised the need and necessity of parent engagement sessions.
- Ms Sarita, Headmistress of middle school, also joined the meeting later.
- The Principal assured that he will fully cooperate with us and discuss these issues with Principal of Vaishali branch and higher authorities if needed.
- One of the senior member of AVM management who was present in the meeting suggested that a letter from CWC may be written to the AVM management via school regarding their requirements to fulfil the need of the program.
- The meeting was concluded with the action point by the school that they will discuss the matter internally first and on a suitable day a meeting will be fixed with Capt Ruma where activity calendar for this year can be discussed.
- Parent Engagement session at AVM Vaishali-
- Dr Rahul Mehra, Rastogi Ji, Capt. Ruma Peter and Dr Gargee attended the program. Principal Jagdish Prasad, Chairperson AVM Jaipur Dr Vijay Goyal, Ms Divya Gupta along with school teachers, students and 20-25 parents were present for this session.
- Ms Divya introduced each and every one. Students performed welcome song as well as traditional welcome of the guests was done.
- Dr Rahul Mehra gave a lecture demonstration touching upon the topics of nutrition, sugar and salt intake, Anaemia and parents as role models.
- Parents and students were very interactive and asked multiple questions to Dr Rahul.
- The session ended with a brief meeting with the management of the school and CSHP teachers. Dr Rahul appreciated the efforts and encouraged the teachers to stay passionate and motivated.
- Deep discussion with Dr Vijay Goyal and Dr Rahul Mehra, helped him understand the program in depth.

- Meeting at Jaipur Rugs-
- Dr Rahul Mehra, Capt. Ruma Peter, Dr Gargee and Sharad sir were present. In the Jaipur rugs team Mr Choudhary, Mr Vishal, Sameeksha and Mr Amkur Tiwari were present.
- Dr Gargee introduced Dr Rahul to Mr Choudhary. Dr Rahul and Mr Choudhary briefly discussed on their work.
- Mr Vishal was very vocal about how this program can impact the children of the women workers of Jaipur rugs. Both teams brainstormed the possibility and challenges for pitching CSHP as a non-school program.
- Mr Vishal discussed the possibility of a master training class that can be done for volunteers provided by Jaipur rugs.
- Dr Rahul suggested that the Jaipur Rugs team should start by maintaining health card of these children and assessing the need of this program.
- Jaipur rugs team will create a database of children studying in classes 6th, 7th and 8th and further evaluating the sample size for the program.
- Both teams agreed that more brainstorming and discussion is required with respect to CSHP.

- Sharad sir invited Dr Rahul over dinner.
2nd May
- Meeting with Principal Devendra Ji, Gujarati Samaj school, Jaipur.
- Dr Rahul and Dr Gargee attended the meeting. Principal and teacher Ms Priyanka were present.
- Dr Rahul enjoyed his interaction with Principal Debendra Ji who is a health champion and keenly interested in the Health Program.
- The team visited the school and Dr Rahul appreciated the healthy teacher-student ratio at the school.
- The school has historic significance and despite all odds is driven to cater for the minority and weaker section of the society in the field of education.
- Parent engagement session at Vimukti Girls School, Jaipur
- Dr Rahul and Dr Gargee attended the program, Principal Jyoti ji, teachers, students and around 30 parents were present.
- The students performed yoga/gymnastics in front of the guests. Students also sang a welcome song.
- 10 students were felicitated with medals as health and wellness champions.
- Students who painted the height chart were felicitated by cash prize by CWC.
- Highlight of visit was inauguration of a CWC Health and Wellness Corner in the school. As part of inaugural ceremony the students conducted health parameter check-up for their parents in which they measured their height, weight, BP and BMI.

- Parents and students were very interactive and asked multiple questions to Dr Rahul.
- Mr Vijay Gupta and his wife were present with their team and their BMI machine. The parents were very inquisitive and made benefit out of the same.
- Dr Rahul was highly impressed by the efforts of Vimukti team.

- CWC team and Dr Rahul Mehra reached CWC office post-lunch. Dr Rahul Mehra was escorted byUmardin ji to the railway station to board the train for Delhi.
